Lorenzana backs designation of NDF as terrorist group

The Department of National Defense (DND) and the military are backing the move of the Anti-Terrorism Council (ATC) to designate the National Democratic Front (NDF) as a terrorist organization over its links to communist rebels.
In a statement on Tuesday, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said the DND is hoping the designation will push government efforts to solve the security issues in the Philippines.
“The Department hopes that this development justifies and enables the defense sector to move forward in its efforts to address internal security concerns and lay the foundations of sustainable, lasting peace and national development,” he said. ....

The Department of National Defense (DND) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) backed the decision of the Anti-Terrorism Council (ATC) to designate the National Democratic Front (NDF) as a terrorist group in the country.
“The Department hopes that this development justifies and enables the defense sector to move forward in its efforts to address internal security concerns and lay the foundations of sustainable, lasting peace and national development,” Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said.
Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) also supported the designation of NDF as a terrorist group.
“The designation affirms the duplicity of the CPP that commands their armed group New People’s Army and the so-called legal front that provides support for their terroristic activities,” AFP’s public affairs office chief Captain Jonathan Zata said. ....
