I received a lot of negative feedback following last week’s opinion piece. I was criticised for being a bit on the negative side by comparing Lesotho to Botswana. Some people felt that I was a bit harsh and negative and the piece left a bitter aftertaste.
Well, some of our readers may be interested to know that Lesotho’s economy was actually bigger to Botswana’s economy in 1990 before democracy was introduced in Lesotho in 1993. That should tell you a thing or two about democracy.
Now, the real mystery surrounds the facts on how Lesotho got left behind its peers being Botswana and eSwatini to a level where Botswana grew its economy ten times bigger to that of Lesotho. Ten times bigger! Tell me, where did we go wrong? ....

Council says budget will not allow for pedestrian crossing this year

City crossing will not happen until 2022 at the earliest
The people of Castletroy will have to wait until next year at least for a pedestrian crossing on Old Schoolhouse Road.
Labour Cllr Elena Secas has been campaigning for three years for a crossing close to the bus stop at Kylemore where parents and young children cross regularly to a creche.
Limerick City and County Council say the money isn t in the budget to provide a crossing this year but they will consider it for 2022.
Cllr Secas wants the council to apply to the National Roads Authority for funding but in the meantime she says people need to show personal responsibility.. ....

Ragwort is one of a number of noxious weeds, such as thistles, docks (included in 1937), wild oats (1973), common barberry (1958) and the male wild hop plant (1965), listed in the Noxious Weeds Act which dates back to 1936.
Reports indicate the presence of ragwort has increased in recent years, with this very apparent on certain land parcels.
Where ragwort has been a problem in the previous year and no practices have taken place to address it, then it will almost certainly be an issue this year.
Responsibility
Responsibility for controlling ragwort in fields lies with the landowner or the manager of the lands in which the plant is present, while the National Roads Authority lists relevant local authorities as being responsible for controlling plants in areas such as road verges, landscaped areas or public amenities. ....

The National Roads Authority and its subcontractor will undertake paving works on a section of Shamrock Road between the Spotts Dock and Flow Building (the old Cable and Wireless Exchange) just past Spotts Newlands Road from Monday, April 19 to Tuesday, April 27,
between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Motorists are being asked to plan ahead and watch out for traffic diversions. There will be some delays as traffic will be stop and go during these times.
