The Managing Director, Port Harcourt Refining Company, PHRC, Mr. Ahmed Dikko, is on course to end the protracted rot in the establishment and ensure it works at full capacity again.
This is even as the United States of America, USA, delegation expressed optimism about the rehabilitation of the refinery and opportunities for US private sector engagement.
The PHRC has witnessed rejuvenation in the last one year since the current MD took over the reins of the company. Before March 2020, the refinery was comatose and regarded as a waste of public resources because it has gulped billions and yet had not worked. ....

Ortom commends Buhari for directing security agents to shoot anyone with AK-47

DAILY POST reported that Buhari also directed the suppression of bandits who have refused to surrender.
Reacting, Ortom who spoke during a function at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi stated that the Buhari’s order would reduce the level of criminality, banditry and militia herders’ attacks on Benue communities as well as other parts of the country.
According to the Governor, the order would also make the communities safer for displaced farmers to return to their ancestral homes.
“I wish to commend Mr. President for his recent order against those bearing AK47 rifles. This I am sure will reduce the high rate of criminality, banditry and militia herdsmen attacks on our farming communities,” the Governor stated. ....

Akwa Ibom govt, host communities, others raise concerns over PIB, seek amendment

The Akwa Ibom State Government, oil communities in the State as well as a Civil Society Organisation – Policy Alert, has pointed out some anomalies that marred the petroleum Industry Bill and called for an amendment before it’s passed into law by the National Assembly.
They made the observations on Tuesday during a public hearing with the National Assembly Joint Committee on Petroleum at the Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital.
The Executive Director of Policy Alert, Tijah Akpan Bolton in his submission pointed out that the PIB had failed to clearly define what a host or impacted community is, and how each would be affected by the provisions, stressing that, the ambiguity should be addressed to avoid future conflicts between host and impacted communities in the state. ....

NASS intends to pass Petroleum Industry Bill in April — Rep. Mongunu

Rep. Mohammed Mongunu, the Chairman of House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee on Petroleum, has said that the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), is expected to be passed by end of April to ensure competitiveness in oil and gas industry.
Mongunu made the remark while speaking with newsmen on the sideline of the visit of the National Assembly Joint Committee on Petroleum to the Port Harcourt Refining Company in Eleme, Rivers, on Wednesday.
According to him, our intention is to pass the PIB with the speed of light by the end of April 2021 so that Nigeria will get the benefits of the reformed oil and gas industry. ....
