Johannesburg - Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula has expressed concern at preliminary investigations suggesting that corruption is the reason for the unavailability of booking slots at various Driving Licence Testing Centres (DLTCs) in Gauteng.
The minister had a meeting with the authorities, involved in DLTC operations across all three spheres of government in Gauteng on Friday, following a growing trend of complaints received in respect of operations in the provinces centres.
Mbalula said that the department has been paying attention to the challenges confronting DLTCs across the country, and the impact to the livelihoods of those âwho require these services to put bread on the table.â ....

JOHANNESBURG - Frustrated driving school operators are expected to march to the offices of the Transport Department and Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) on Friday morning.
Members of the National Driving School Association are unhappy about the online booking system, which they say was inefficient.
Last Friday, they staged a demonstration at 38 licencing centres in Gauteng demanding the online portal be scrapped.
The march is expected to start at 10 am in Midrand at the RTMC offices and will then move to the Department of Transport in Pretoria. ....

Pretoria - The National Driving School Association of South Africa has pledged to take its demands for the upgrading or outright scrapping of the online booking system to the National Department of Transport if needs be.
Its members protested at the Waltloo licensing centre last week, demanding the system either be upgraded or scrapped.
Greg Sehlapelo, assistant general-secretary for the association, said the system did not take into consideration that many residents lived in remote areas, had limited knowledge of navigating the online system or could not afford connectivity.
Sehlapelo said when the online booking system was introduced as a pilot project in 2018, they initially had no issues with it apart from the fact there had been minimal consultation with those in the transport sector and the public. ....
