Pubs and restaurants in England ‘may not open until May’ Hospitality venues in England may be forced to remain closed for five months, with the early May bank holiday being touted as a realistic reopening date. Prime Minister Boris Johnson plunged the country back into lockdown last week, with the nation once again ordered to stay at home. Under the restrictions, hospitality businesses are able to continue offering takeaway, click-and-collect, drive-thru and delivery services. However, venues are banned from selling takeaway alcoholic drinks. Updated Thursday, 7th January 2021, 10:58 am The Chief Executive of pub and restaurant group, Oakman Inns is offering to forego The Chancellor’s latest lockdown grant of up to £250,000 if he allows National Health Trusts to use Oakman Inns’ venues as vaccination centres. Under the business grants scheme outlined by Rishi Sunak yesterday (Wednesday), Oakman Inns would have received more than £250,000 during the next four months, but Dermot King is ready to give that back to the Government to help pay for a bigger and quicker vaccination roll-out. King said: “The only route to any normality is through mass vaccination and for that the NHS needs to be able to work at scale. ....
Pubs and breweries battle through a third lockdown As the UK enters its third national lockdown pubs have been forced to close again and this time there is a ban on selling takeaway pints. Since entering Tier 4 pubs in Bracknell have been forced to close and although the Government’s one-off ‘top-up’ grants for closed businesses has helped pubs, there are concerns the money will not be enough. Many are worried that if pubs remain closed into March or even April, that the sums per week will be completely inadequate to stop hardship and closures. Dave Richardson from Bracknell Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) said: “It seems what is given with one hand is taken away with the other. Any kind of cash grant is welcome obviously.
