Teurlings Catholic High School cheerleaders win at national event Posted at 10:06 AM, Apr 26, 2021 and last updated 2021-04-26 11:06:56-04 The Teurlings High School cheer team has won a championship for the fourth time, supporters say. The team, led by Coach Nicky McIntosh, won the Super Varsity Non Tumbling Game Day finals at the Universal Cheerleaders Association competition in Orlando, Florida. The UCA awards championships in dozens of categories. This is the fourth one for Teurlings Catholic, and the second in as many years, supporters say. The captains of this year s team are Celeste Frederick and Emma Claire Mcmath. There are 29 young women on the team. ....
LAFAYETTE – Summer Ellyson has been selected as the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week. The former Teurlings Catholic star earned a total of three wins in matchups against Troy and Texas State. In 18 innings of work combined against the Trojans and Bobcats, Ellyson gave up only five runs, scattered 13 hits and struck out a total of 22 hitters. The senior right-hander has now collected SBC Pitcher of the Week honors a dozen times, and has now claimed at least one weekly award in each of the past four seasons. It is also the second weekly award of the 2021 season for No. 13-ranked Louisiana (34-7, 16-2 SBC), joining Kandra Lamb’s honor back on March 30 following a sweep of South Alabama. ....
Airline sophomore Ernie Perry III won the 113-pound weight division in the 48th Louisiana Classic tournament held Friday and Saturday in Gonzalez. It was Perryâs second title in the event. He won the 106-pound class last year and went on to win the Division I state title in the same division. The Louisiana Classic annually features most of top wrestlers in the state. Parkway senior Hayden Wood finished fourth in the 160-pound class. Parkway junior David Viers was fifth in the 113-pound class. Airlineâs Christian James made the awards stand with a sixth-place finish in the 182-pound class. ....
