SEC issues show cause notice to ex-Minister

Jadcherla MLA told to give explanation within 48 hours
Responding promptly to complaints on violation of model code of conduct, the State Election Commission has sought an explanation from Jadcherla MLA and former Minister C. Lakshma Reddy for violating the model code of conduct during the recent election campaign in his constituency.
The MLA reportedly warned the voters that they would not be given water and two bedroom houses if the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti candidates secure less number of votes in the forthcoming elections in the municipality.
Citing references from television channels and daily newspapers, the show cause notice was issued by Mahbubnagar District Collector Venkat Rao at the instance of State Election Commissioner C. Partha Sarathi. ....

Forum for Good Governance, in its letter, warns of raging COVID-19 pandemic
Forum for Good Governance has through a letter on Thursday, requested the State Election Commission to postpone the upcoming municipal polls in view of the raging COVID-19 pandemic in its second wave.
Conducting elections for two corporations and five municipalities poses a grave threat to the lives of people in Telangana, when coronavirus spread has reached 6,500 cases per day, the letter said. The Forum also questioned the amendment to the Municipal Act in 2018, which seeks the SEC to obtain concurrence from the State government for conducting elections to municipalities. This is clear violation of Article 243-ZA of the Constitution of India which vests with SEC the power of superintendence, direction, and control of the prep ....

The Forum for Good Governance (FGG), on Wednesday, urged Principal Secretary of Municipal Administration and Urban Development department Arvind Kumar to immediately take steps to appoint ward committees for Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) or municipalities across Telangana.
In a communication to the municipal secretary, a copy of which was released to the media, FGG secretary M. Padmanabha Reddy pointed out that the Telangana Municipalities Act had come into vogue in July 2019 to bring more “transparency and accountability” into the civic administration.
And, under its provisions, each ULB has to form 15-member ward committees giving due representation to women, youth, senior citizens and eminent persons. The ward committees are supposed to act as a bridge between people and the municipality. ....

Vijayawada: With the Supreme Court favouring elections to local bodies, Andhra Pradesh State Election Commissioner (SEC) Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar appears to have scored a victory over the Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy government, with which he had been at loggerheads on the issue.
The division bench of the apex court, comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Hrishikesh Roy, on Monday, dismissed the petition filed by the Andhra Pradesh government challenging the verdict of the Andhra Pradesh high court, which had allowed the SEC to conduct local body elections in February. ....

Hyderabad: The Nizampet Municipal Corporation has come forward and cracked down on illegal constructions and sealed 113 of them in the last few days.
The NMC spread over 88 sq. km area has pointed out 1,001 illegal buildings in Nizampet, Bachupally and Pragatinagar region. ‘This building is sealed under Section 181 of the Telangana Muncipalities Act for carrying out the construction’, a flexi with this written has been put up on these buildings so that people will not buy flats and spaces in such constructions. ....
