Chinese hackers attempt to block power supply in Telangana; bid to attack TS Transco, TS Gen thwarted

Hyderabad: A massive Mumbai-type power outage was averted in Telangana after the Central Electricity Authority alerted the Telangana government that the Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CERT-In) has suspected that Chinese hackers may target TS Transco and TS Genco.
According to ToI report, Chinese hackers’ groups allegedly targeted Telangana State Load Dispatch Centre (TSLDC), however, the cyber attack was successfully thwarted by the state government agencies.
On receiving information from a trusted source about a China-based groups command and control servers trying to communicate with systems belonging to the TSLDC, TS Transco and TS Genco were alerted and asked to take adequate measures. ....

Hyderabad: The Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CERT- In) on Tuesday advised the TS State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) and TS Transmission Corporation (Transco) to take precautionary measures to ensure security of the power system, after a security threat from a China-based threat group was assessed.
Security measures like blocking server IPs were communicated by CERT-In, apart from temporary disabling of the control function for remote operation of circuit Breakers from the SLDC and changing of credentials of all the users accessing the SLDC website. ....

HYDERABAD: On a day central power minister RK Singh denied reports of Chinese cyberattacks leading to a major power outage in Mumbai last year, top Telangana electricity officials said they had received alerts about Chinese malware entering 40 sub-stations from the Central Electricity Authority.
Late on Monday evening, the CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team) reported from a trusted source that China-based threat actor group command and control servers were trying to communicate with systems belonging to Telangana SLDC (State Load Dispatch Centre) and asked the Telangana power utilities to take all protection and safety measures.
The SLDC monitors power supply situation in the state and the malware had entered 40 substations, but efforts by the hackers were successfully thwarted by state government agencies. “After we got an alert from the central authorities, we have removed all malware in 40 substations in SLDC and strengthened o ....
