Short history of the 'most flexible of all' Type 3

Last year marked the 60th anniversary of the Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Company’s Type 3, better known as the Class 33, or simply the ‘Crompton’. Mark Nicholls recounts the type’s history.
In British Railways’ 1955 Modernisation Plan there was little interest for a Type 3 power category, covering locos in the 1,500-2,000hp range, but that was soon found to be a mistake.
The Type 3 was actually one of the most flexible of all, able to provide a loco capable of varied mixed traffic use for light and medium freight and passenger work. It also had the ability to haul heavy loads at low to moderate speed. Furthermore, it offered the power of a Type 5 if used in multiple. ....

Police are searching for a woman who appeared in a video claiming she had been threatened by the father of one of her children.
The video, posted on a Facebook news page, included audio recordings of the man allegedly threatening the life of the woman, her son, and her mother.
Police sources told Newsday, investigators saw the video and are now trying to confirm who the woman is, where she lives, and if she had reported the incidents to the police.
The woman claims that the father of her six-year-old daughter had just got out of prison on bail on kidnapping and rape charges on a matter in Point Fortin. She said since his release he had been sending threatening voice notes, saying he would harm not only her but her son, 12. ....

A Santa Flora man was shot and killed near his home on Sunday morning.
Dead is Trevor Saddest Hospedales, 47, who lived off the SS Erin Road, a short distance from the police station.
Residents reported that they heard rapid gunshots shortly before 11 am and saw Hospedales’ motionless body on the road.
Residents said the killer, wearing a hoodie and mask, came out of a silver car near Jacob Settlement #1. He walked to an abandoned shack across the road and asked Hospedales’ sons for him. Next to the shack is a track that leads to the family’s home. ....

A man with several gun and gun-related cases pending in the Southern and South Western Division was gunned down in San Fernando on Friday afternoon.
Michael Ato Gaskill, 28, died on the scene at the HDC housing development building off Ramsaran Street. He lived at Lady Hailes Avenue, Embacadere, in an area known as the Bronx. He was unemployed. He also had other addresses in Fyzabad, police said.
Reports are, at about 3 pm on Friday, residents heard gunshots and later found Gaskill’s body with gunshot wounds at the side of the building.
Police were contacted. ....
