ALBANY When the city s violence steals another life, grieving families often turn to the Rev. Avery Comithier.
The funeral for Shanita Thomas, 32, killed in a January shooting on Central Avenue, was held at Comithier s Elijah Missionary Church. The funeral for 18-year-old Chyna Forney, killed earlier this month, also happened there.
On Saturday, the church will host those mourning LaShon Turner, a 39-year-old shot and killed Friday near where Central meets Henry Johnson Boulevard.
And just a few days after, the funeral for 15-year-old Destiny Greene, who died Monday when men opened fire on a parked car in which she sat, will be held at the church in the city s South End. ....

Good weather greeted spectators Saturday at the 23rd annual Wayne County Misfits Car Show, held at Leo French Park in Fairfield. Reports indicated there were over 130 entries at the event, and there were numerous cars on display, including several from the 1950s and 1960s. Proceeds from Saturday's event go to local charities. The event was sponsored by Lemonds Chevrolet Chrysler Center and Fairfield National Bank. The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 1108 new cases of the coronavirus Saturday and 43 deaths, bringing the state's total numbers to 1,374,565 cases and 22,599 deaths. Reports from around the area Saturday indicated White County had one new case, a female in her 20s, bringing the county's total to 1808 and 27 deaths. Saline County reported four new cases, bringing the county's total to 2749 and 54 deaths. Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicated that 64 percent of Illinois residents have received at least one COVID-19 ....

So in the course of two years, we lost, you know, anywhere from four to eight establishments from the same corridor. And it s put a lot of undue stress on the smaller bodegas and medium sized grocery, that can t really afford to carry that diversity of our product range. So moving into that McDonald s site, and developing it the way we re thinking is a good solution to that. ....

LAKE GEORGE The Lake George Association received a $25,000 grant to use toward a device that will help reduce the flow of sediment into Lake George.
The delta that has formed around the mouth of English Brook in the south basin is the biggest in the lake. It is a nutrient-rich mass that spawns invasive species, hampers boat navigation and harms fisheries. The LGA has been working on the delta problem since 2003 when the group published a survey on all the deltas around the 33-mile-long lake. ....
