Published: 4:44 PM April 16, 2021    There are three candidates vying for your vote to represent Melbourn ward on South Cambridgeshire District Council - Credit: Archant Melbourn ward voters will have the choice of three candidates to represent them on South Cambs District Council in the local elections on Thursday, May 6. The vacant Melbourn vacancy is one of two district council seats that represents the villages of Melbourn, Meldreth, Shepreth and Whaddon. The by-election is due to the resignation of Philippa Hart. The candidates are:

South Cambs politicians continue Thakeham development row

Picture: Stephen Frost - Credit: Archant The South Cambs Lib Dems have been accused of “peddling fear and conspiracy” over the government’s involvement in a proposal for a 25,000-home new development. Last month, developer Thakeham revealed plans for a new town and connected villages on land around Barrington, Bassingbourn-cum-Kneesworth, Foxton, Meldreth, Orwell, Shepreth, Whaddon and Wimpole. It said the development would be the UK’s “first zero-carbon community”. The proposal has no formal planning status, and no planning application has yet been submitted. Despite key figures from both the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives publicly stating opposition to the proposals, it is nonetheless becoming a political battleground.

Robertson House: HCT responds to hour long queues at centre

One 80-year-old man, who does not wish to be named, arrived five minutes before his appointment but was queueing for an hour. He described the process as  poorly organised . He added: Parking was a bit heavy, but at the end of the day I m glad I got my jab. National media outlets including ITV and the BBC also reported on queuing at the site yesterday, and questions arose online, with Cllr Bridget Smith from South Cambs District Council questioning the queues that were forming.
