A couple who have been married for 50 years were the first to receive their COVID-19 vaccinations at the newly opened centre in Welwyn Garden City today.
Nigel and Rosemary from Letty Green, just outside the town, had their vaccinations sitting side-by-side, at the Roche Pharmaceuticals building in Shire Park.
They said: “We are very happy to be getting our vaccinations – we have only really been going out to medical appointments so it’s good to be here today.”
The new centre is aimed at the over 70, along with healthcare workers.
Cllr Zukowskji added that he knows of Welwyn Hatfield residents in care homes who have received letters telling them to drive to North London , which he views as not helpful. I don t really feel its happening at the speed it needs to in care homes, he said. But I m sure they are doing their very best to get it out. They are working constantly on this.
Anson Court since vaccinated residents on January 16, according to a carer at the home.
The delay was explained by East and North Herts Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), which manages NHS services, who pointed out how difficult this has been.

Facing a surge in COVID-19 patients, East and North Herts NHS Trust decided to close the New QEII in Welwyn Garden City from 10pm to 8am last week so it could direct nurses to the Lister in Stevenage.
These are the same hours the urgent care centre was looked at being shut under a proposal by the East and North Herts Clinical Commissioning Group, which manages NHS services, back in 2019.
And now an NHS spokesperson has said: “This emergency, short-term arrangement will remain in place while the Lister continues to face extreme staffing challenges and the trust has committed to reviewing it weekly.

The team behind the mass vaccination centre at Robertson House in Stevenage has addressed concerns over long queues that formed at the site yesterday afternoon.
One 80-year-old man, who does not wish to be named, arrived five minutes before his appointment but was queueing for an hour. He described the process as poorly organised .
He added: Parking was a bit heavy, but at the end of the day I m glad I got my jab.
National media outlets including ITV and the BBC also reported on queuing at the site yesterday, and questions arose online, with Cllr Bridget Smith from South Cambs District Council questioning the queues that were forming.
