The inaugural Soul of Southside Festival combined the arts, humanities and commerce to create a picture of the Southside that sometimes goes unseen.
“That is its legacy through its historic resident activism,” said Christic Henry, a local business owner and community advocate.
Initially, the event was sold out after 500 tickets were bought but event organizers wanted to ensure everyone could experience the festival and were allowing more people.
They continued to keep track of the number of people admitted in order to adhere to CDC guidelines.
Bus tours through 10 Southside neighborhoods were offered Saturday, providing a deeper look into what the Greater Bond, FAMU, Gaither and other neighborhoods have to offer.
