BLANCHESTER The Blanchester Schools Foundation recently presented four scholarships during the high school’s Senior Awards Ceremony.
The four scholarships are valued at $42,000.
• The Carnahan Scholarship was established in honor of Iva Jean (Irvin) Carnahan and Raymond Norman Carnahan, who devoted their lives to the love of children and the importance of education.
Each year, this scholarship awards $10,000 per year for four years to a Blanchester High School Student to attend Wilmington College. Since 2002, this scholarship has awarded over $994,000 to Blanchester graduates attending Wilmington College. ....

As part of Ohio Community College Month, the state’s top students have been selected to win scholarships recognizing their academic excellence, leadership and community service.
Five students at Southern State Community College have been honored with a place on the All-Ohio Community College Academic Team for 2021, joining 73 other students from Ohio’s community college system honored with scholarships for their excellence in academics, leadership and community service. A ceremony to recognize this year’s award winners was held virtually on April 29 as part of Community College Month in Ohio.

Commuting students are defined as those who do not reside in institution-owned housing on college and university campuses. Commuters make up more than 85 percent of today’s college students.
Their numbers include students of traditional age who live with their parents, those who live in rental housing near campus, adults with full-time jobs and parents living with their own children.
Jacoby Consulting in 2020 reported that 41 percent of commuter students are 25 years of age or older, and 39 percent attend school on a part-time basis. As many as 70 percent of full-time students work while enrolled in college, as do most part-time students. ....

Southern State Community College President Dr. Kevin Boys was recently honored with the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction, one of the most prestigious awards for community college presidents.
The Shirley B. Gordon Award is given to college presidents who have shown strong support of student success on their campus by recognizing academic achievement, leadership and service among high-achieving students at their colleges. Recipients are nominated by students on their campus and are only eligible to receive the award once over the course of their career. College presidents with a minimum of five years of service can be nominated by their PTK chapter. ....
