In 2018, the inaugural Vanilla Slice War took place at the festival, where local cafes created their very own signature version of the treat to make life in general just that little bit sweeter. This year, six judges will be scoring along the same criteria, blind tasting and scoring which is sure to bring the main 1770 Festival stage to life. With the event set to be televised by Channel 7 and ABC, Vanilla Slice War celebrity judges have included surfing legend Layne Beachley, INXS’ Kirk Pengilly and Creek to Coast’s fishing experts Scott Hillier and Olivia Degn. ....

The 1770 Festival is back for 2021, May 21 to 23, and features Australian music legend Troy Cassar-Daley. The Festival will be held at the SES grounds on Captain Cook Drive, Seventeen Seventy. The Fun Run will be held on Sunday, May 23, with runners and walkers of all ages and abilities invited to take part in either two kilometre and five kilometre courses. This will be a COVID-safe event with physical distancing and other hygiene protocols in place. Dressing up is encouraged with a range of prizes on offer for the best costumes in line with this year’s race theme – “The Spirit of 1770”. ....

Ecofest is coming back to the Tondoon Botanic Gardens after going virtual last year due to COVID-19. The event aims to educate residents on the importance of living a sustainable life and safeguarding natural resources. Gladstone region Mayor Matt Burnett said it was great to see the event return to the region. Many plant and gardening stalls in attendance at Ecofest in previous years. This yearâs theme is about ecosystem restoration, and aligns with World Environment Day on June 5. âWe are fortunate to be home to a vast array of ecosystems from the Southern Great Barrier Reef, rainforest, wetlands, coastlines and more,â Cr Burnett said. ....
