Blalock began excavating for footings for the new bridge in late 2018. The foundation pilings — steel beams — are driven down 20 to 30 ft. until they reach bedrock. The steel beam pilings are wrapped with rebar; concrete forms were placed; and concrete was poured to create the abutment.
Clinton, Tenn., is getting a new bridge. Rather than replace the existing, aging truss bridge, Mark Nagi, Tennessee Department of Transportation community relations officer of Region 1 in eastern Tennessee, said replacement was the preferred alternative to a restoration [or] repair for the crossing, in part because this option imposes a less significant impact on the motoring public, but also because a new bridge will enjoy a longer service life than a restored older bridge. ....

Saturday, 5:44 p.m., on Carpenter Road in Defiance County s Adams Township, a vehicle driven by Lora Ripke, 43, Archbold, struck a deer. Damage was light to the vehicle.
Saturday, 9:30 p.m., on Harrison Street in Sherwood, vehicles driven by Michael Kelley, 41, Sherwood, and Michelle Manley, 30, 13762 Ohio 18, collided. Kelley was cited for failure to yield. Manley was taken by Sherwood EMS to ProMedica Defiance Hospital with suspected minor injuries. Damage was heavy to the vehicles. ....

Charity scuttles plan to move homeless shelter near Park Ave. after uproar from neighborhood

The proposed location for a new Catholic Charities men s shelter is a vacant building at 501 W. Genesee St.

Syracuse, N.Y. Catholic Charities has scuttled plans to move a homeless shelter near the Park Avenue neighborhood after three months of uproar from residents and business owners.
The non-for-profit said in September it planned to buy the building at 501 W. Genesee St. for a 99-bed shelter as well as mental health services and office space for up to 50 workers.
This week, Executive Director Mike Melara said all activity for the project at that building has been suspended and the organization is exploring other options. ....
