Castlebanny Wind Farm has been granted ‘strategic infrastructure project’ status by An Bord Pleanála.
This will allow project developers, ART Generation and Coillte, to send their planning application directly to An Bord Pleanála, and bypass the local planning approval phase.
The proposed wind farm would be located in South County Kilkenny, 2.2km South-East of Ballyhale, 4.5km North-East of Mullinavat and 5.8km South-West of Inistioge.
It entails the construction of 21 wind turbines up to a maximum tip height of 185 metres, 3 onsite borrow pits to source stone, one onsite met mast of 100m in height as well as the provision of amenity facilities to allow and encourage public access to the site. ....

Ongoing icy conditions are now a serious concern for South Kilkenny farmers, Piltown Municipal District Councillor Fidelis Doherty (FG) told District Council members at this month s virtual meeting.
Milk lorries and larger vehicles cannot travel on some local access roads in the area due to ongoing icy conditions, she said.
This means that some of our farming community cannot get milk collected or cattle feed delivered.
Senior Executive Engineer for Piltown Municipal District Stan Cullen assured councillors that as much as possible is being done to alleviate these issues. ....

Members of Kilkenny County Council have vowed to continue to work in partnership and co-operation with their neighbouring local authorities and refuted any suggestion from Waterford for the need for a boundary change at the December Monthly Meeting of Kilkenny County Council yesterday.
The matter was raised by a number of councillors following the passing of a motion by Cllr Maria Dollard which stated that Kilkenny County Council strengthen their partnership and collaboration with Waterford City and County Council with the aim being to move towards regional co-operation. ....

A simple Christmas project has lifted the spirits of a rural South Kilkenny community.
The idea of local women Kate Mooney and Tess Cross, the Windgap Pop Up Craft Shop will be open in the ICA Hall, beside the forge in Windgap, for the next two weekends.
You will find unique and special Christmas gifts, and will be supporting 14 local crafters and artists, at the Windgap Pop Up Craft Shop.
This is the first year of the pop up shop. Kate explained that the ICA Hall is a lovely, old building but there wasn’t much happening there lately. Local artists have been working away at home, and people don’t see the work, so Kate and Tess invited them to come along and put their crafts on display. ....
