Proms, graduations scheduled in Gallia By Kayla (Hawthorne) Dunham - [email protected] GALLIA COUNTY Public high schools in Gallia County are planning in-person proms and graduations for students this year. Gallia Academy High School (GAHS) is planning its junior and senior prom for May 1 at 7 p.m. at the high school gymnasium. The notice sent to families, and posted on social media, stated any GAHS junior or senior may attend the prom with a date from GAHS, including those who attend career centers. When students enter the building, they will have their temperatures taken and check for COVID-19 symptoms. All those in attendance will be required to wear masks, social distance and practice good hygiene, the notice stated. ....
Gallia Local Schools BOE approves agenda items PATRIOT The Gallia County Local Board of Education met last month for a regular business meeting. During the meeting, all board members were present, including Jeff Halley, Terry Halley, Beth James, Brent Schultz and Brandon Twyman. The board approved the treasurer Lily Blevins’ items, which included January’s financial report, paid bills and donations. From the superintendent’s recommendations, the board approved Inter-agency Agreement for 2020-2021 for Program Coordination for Transition and Services for Part C and Part B. In personnel matters, the board approved hiring Samantha Martin as the Academic Festival Advisor at South Gallia Middle School on a supplemental contract through June 30, 2021. ....
Wildcats slip past South Gallia, 49-47 OT WATERFORD, Ohio Some games just last a minute too long. The South Gallia boys basketball team led Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division host Waterford 41-34 with a minute left in regulation on Friday night in Washington County, but the Wildcats forced overtime 41 and wound up with a 49-47 victory. The Rebels (8-5, 2-3 TVC Hocking) shot 18-of-50 (36 percent) from the field, including 3-of-9 (33.3 percent) from three-point range, while Waterford made 18-of-49 (36.7 percent) field goal attempts, including 3-of-11 (27.3 percent) three-point tries. At the foul line, SGHS was 8-of-13 (61.5 percent) and WHS went 10-for-19 (52.6 percent). Waterford won the rebounding battle by a 40-to-28 clip, including 10-to-4 on the offensive end. The Rebels committed 10 turnovers, four less than WHS. ....
