GCC Graduation to be held Friday night in virtual format | News, Sports, Jobs

This Friday evening, May 7, Gogebic Community College will hold its 87th commencement ceremony virtually. “Due to the uncertainty of COVID-19 and to protect our students, their families, faculty and staff, we decided to host a virtual graduation ceremony to be aired on YouTube on Friday, May 7 at 6 p.m. CST at this link. This decision was not an easy one, and we are working diligently to provide students with a ceremony that they will remember,” said Dr. George McNulty, GCC President. Students will once again receive graduation boxes with a cap and gown, diploma cover and other memorable items to assist in the celebration of this momentous occasion. ....

Lt Col Elaine Sue Houser
Sue Houser, passed away peacefully at the age of 71, on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at Amita St. Joseph Medical Center. Sue was born on June 16, 1949, the daughter of the late Ralph and Phyllis (nee Ness) Houser. She was raised and educated in Chicago, IL and Alma Center WI, and was a graduate of South Shore High School and received her Nursing Degree from South Chicago Community Hospital and was a proud graduate of the University of Iowa.

Sue was a proud decorated Veteran of the United States Air Force Reserves. She was a Flight Nurse and Air Reserve Technician with the 63rd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron at the 928th Airlift Wing, O Hare Air Reserve Forces Facility. Sue rose to the rank of Lt Col retiring with twenty years of faithful service. Her awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor, Combat Readiness Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Na ....

Willard L. Ogren
Willard Leonard Ogren, 87, of Iron River, WI, died on Friday, March 5th, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, MN. Willard was born on September 22, 1933 in Superior, WI, the son of Swan Leonard and Amanda Sabina (Gustafson) Ogren.
Willard grew up in Port Wing, WI and graduated from South Shore High School in 1951, where he was an outstanding athlete in basketball, track, and baseball. Sadly, his athletic endeavors were cut short when he was diagnosed with Tuberculosis and had to spend the majority of his Senior year in the Bayfield Sanitarium.
He married Geraldine Marie Renier, “Jeri”, the love of his life, on July 26th, 1958. They celebrated 62 wonderful years together before his passing. Willard and Jeri raised their family in Port Wing, WI and then moved to Iron River, WI. Neighbors often saw Willard on the pontoon in the summer, snowmobiling in the winter or driving his “thoroughly used” 4-wheeler with Jeri, or side-saddle, throug ....
