Downtown El Paso is holding free parties over the next 3 months and you’re invited
EL PASO, Texas The Downtown Management District is hosting a free event on South El Paso Street from Paisano to Fourth Avenue. The Downtown Fiesta de Las Luces
will be held the last Saturday and Sunday of the month in July, August and September.
The Downtown Fiesta de las Luces will consist of Saturday evenings filled with music, art vendors, food trucks and fun under the lights of the Paseo de Las Luces. Sunday afternoons will celebrate the local culture with food trucks serving traditional Mexican fare, mariachis, folklorico, vendors and family friendly activities.

For over a year Delfina Gracilazo has traveled across the Texas-Mexico border between Piedras Negras and Eagle Pass, TX to sell her blood. It’s a common way to make some extra money at the border. She stands outside one of Eagle Pass’s two Plasma donation facilities waiting with a group of other Mexican citizens who can sell it multiple times a month, earning about $40 per donation. The money didn’t used to make it back.
“We would come donate, stop by the stores and shop and then we would go back,” Garcilazo said in Spanish. “Now, it’s different. We come and go straight back.”

This is a different and sometimes difficult Christmas shopping season for many retailers and shoppers because of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has put restrictions on store capacities and has government officials advising people to limit shopping trips.
“We wait all year for the Christmas shopping season. We wait to make up for the whole year,” said Chris Hernandez, who, with his father, Jorge Hernandez, operates three clothing stores on South El Paso Street – Downtown El Paso’s main shopping district, which is connected to the Santa Fe international bridge.
