.- Members of The Art Dealers Association of America (ADAA), the nation s foremost nonprofit organization of leading art dealers, return together this fall for The Art Show to showcase their dynamic programs featuring more than 40 solo presentations, as well as an array of dual, thematic, and group exhibitions. Inaugurating a new moment on the international fair calendar and enlivening the fall arts season in New York, the 2021 edition takes place at the Park Avenue Armory with new fall dates, November 4 through November 7, with the annual Benefit Preview on Wednesday, November 3. Mayor Michael Bloomberg came to the Lower East Side this morning to announce that the Seward Park project, delayed for four decades, was finally a “done deal.”
Standing in an abandoned building of the Essex Street Market with some of the city’s biggest developers, community partners and neighborhood activists, he called Essex Crossing (the official name of the project) a “wonderful thing” that will bring “the new housing, jobs and open space Lower East Siders want and need and deserve.”
Word got out yesterday that the residential, commercial and community-oriented complex would be built by L+M Development Partners, BFC Partners, and Taconic Investment Partners. They’re paying the city $180 million for the site and investing a total of $1.1 billion to build the new community at the base of the Williamsburg Bridge over the next decade. Tonight at University Settlement’s Houston Street Center, developers of Essex Crossing are unveiling their designs for the first four buildings of the large residential and commercial project coming to the former Seward Park urban renewal site.
Thanks to a press briefing held earlier today, we’re able to bring you a condensed version of what members of the public are seeing this evening. Delancey Street Associates, the consortium building the nearly 2-million sq. ft. project, asked us to wait until the meeting of Community Board 3’s land use committee got underway before we published the renderings you see here.
