Nicole Aurit came to Austin from San Antonio expecting to live in her van, get a job and eventually find stable housing. She managed to find work as a manager at a Super Cuts, but when the pandemic hit in March, the city suddenly shut down, and she lost her job.
That halted a search for a permanent home. And the pandemic also slowed services for people experiencing homelessness, and donations from people suddenly limiting their contact with others. ....

After COVID-19 cancelled San Antonio's homeless count, groups are still tracking the numbers

Volunteers take part in San Antonio s 2019 Point-In-Time Count. Every January, volunteers from homeless organizations across the country comb their cities to tally their number homeless residents. It s called a Point-In-Time Count, or PIT Count.
Due to dangerous COVID-19 infection levels this year, many of those organizations including the San Antonio Regional Alliance for the Homeless (SARAH) cancelled their PIT Counts of unsheltered individuals. A separate count of people in shelters, reported by local agencies, will take place as usual, however.
