(KPLC) - McNeese women’s basketball still felt the lingering effects of COVID 19 amongst the program in the past month, played shorthanded here Monday night in a 66-47 Southland Conference loss to Incarnate Word. McNeese (4-9, 4-2 SLC) entered the game with only eight players and ended the game having only four on the court in the final minute of the game. The Cowgirls played without starters Shaela Gardner and Claralee Richard along with Whitney Johnson who all missed the game due to COVID protocol. Also missing the game was Elizabeth Critton who is still nursing an injury. ....

For the second game in a row, McNeese (4-7, 4-0 SLC) had four players score in double figures despite being without its leading scorer and rebound in Divine Tanks for the second straight game. âWhat a tremendous team win by these young ladies,â said head coach Kacie Cryer. âTo come into Hammond and compete with toughness like we did tonight is unbelievable. As a staff, we couldnât be prouder. We continue to have players step up and just get it done.â ....

The 117 points allowed by McNeese is the most points allowed in a game in program history. The previous record was 113 allowed against Louisiana Tech in 1982 in which Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey was a member of. Mychala Linzy led McNeese with five points while Divine Tanks, Claralee Richard, and Shaela Gardner all had four apiece. Kayla Hamilton and Whitney Johnson led McNeese with four rebounds apiece. ....
