Residents step up, keep community clean through #trashtag challenge

One day before the start of Tourism Week in Craig and Moffat County, residents came out in large numbers Saturday on the final day of Country Living Realty LLC’s #trashtag challenge.

The challenged kicked off April 15, April 15, encouraging community members, groups, and organizations to accept the #trashtag challenge, aimed at cleaning up the community as the weather warmed up.
Following the two-week challenge, residents came together Saturday at Woodbury Park for one final push, cleaning up at Woodbury Park, Breeze Park, City Park, the Sandrocks trail, and along various country roads and city streets ahead of the start of Tourism Week. ....

Craig's Breeze Park honored with Starburst Award by state lottery

After years of investments into upgrading Breeze Park in Craig, the city received recognition from the Colorado Lottery April 21, earning one of 11 Starburst Awards for the fiscal year of 2021.
The Colorado Lottery’s Starburst Awards recognize excellence in the use of Lottery funds for community and conservation projects, according to a press release from the lottery.
In 2015, the city of Craig officially broke ground on the Breeze Park Phase I project, which included significant improvements to the park’s amenities and accessibility. ....

Craig submits grant application for Yampa River Corridor project in place of Woodbury Playground project

Though the Woodbury playground upgrade project will still be completed this year, the Craig City Council pulled a grant request for the project to shift focus to the Yampa River Corridor project.
Craig had recently requested $168,000 in Colorado Department of Local Affairs Tier 1 grant funding. That request was pulled this week, with council replacing it with a $200,000-ask for a Tier 1 grant to cover architectural and engineering costs for the Yampa River Corridor project.
City Manager Peter Brixius told council Tuesday in a discussion with DOLA, representatives told the city of Craig that “because of limited funding from severance and federal mineral lease tax, they felt like a playground project through them would not yield a good response in terms of the community’s allocation of funds.” ....

COVID vaccine in Escambia, Santa Rosa: ShareCare, Publix, Walmart and more

Local health departments have reported being overwhelmed by calls and inquiries, vaccine slots fill up within seconds of being posted and many confused and angry seniors are at a loss over how to navigate the complicated vaccine system.
While the state ShareCare line was originally billed as a catch-all system for all vaccine providers throughout the state, local officials now say the line can be used only to make appointments through county-run facilities, including the local health departments and local county-run vaccine clinics.
(ShareCare) is really for anything run through the county or the health department, which will be the majority of the vaccines, said Santa Rosa County s emergency management director, Brad Baker, adding that the county is administering about 1,500 shots per week. ....
