Perth weather: thunderstorms dump a month's rain in a day

A storm front ringing Perth with thunder and lightning has brought a month s worth of rainfall to the city before the first day of March is even over.
Forecasters only expect things to get wetter, with more storms expected on Tuesday and Wednesday and as much as triple the monthly average likely to fall by the end of the week.
Pictures from the Nine News Sky Cam showed a large storm cell rolling in on Monday afternoon, including a dramatic lightning strike on the city s South 32 building.

Building surveyor fined for misleading classification – Daniel Ross Smee
The Building Services Board has fined a building surveyor $1,000 for misleading the Shire of Toodyay by knowingly signing a certificate with the wrong building classification.
Daniel Ross Smee (BSP293) provided a certificate of building compliance (CBC) in March 2019 for additions and alterations to a Julimar property, including a bedroom, games room and sunroom.
The Board was told that Mr Smee’s CBC listed the sunroom as a class 1a building, meaning it was suitable to use as a habitable room.
However, an investigation by Building and Energy revealed that the room was a class 10a non-habitable structure. It did not comply with class 1a requirements due to features such as flywire enclosures on the walls, a paved floor without dampness protection and non-compliance with energy efficiency requirements. ....

As Perth's suburbs burn, the rest of Australia watches and learns

February has already been a bad month for Perth. Bushfire has destroyed 81 homes and burned more than 10,000 hectares northeast of the city. Residents in the midst of a COVID-19 lockdown were told to abandon their homes and seek shelter as the bushfire raged.
The disaster calls to mind the unprecedented Black Summer fires that devastated eastern Australia last summer. But the tragedies are very different beasts.
Obviously, the Black Summer fires were much more widespread, prolonged and lethal than what Western Australia is experiencing. The east coast fires were largely triggered by lightning, while that’s not thought to be the case in the Perth fire. Wind and temperature also played different roles in the two disasters. ....
