A new attendance record was set this year with 115,866 people through the gates - up from the 100,000 attendance in 2018. More statistics include 11,000 people using the new park and ride service, 4980 head of cattle across the event, 63 tonnes of beef consumed throughout the week, 800 contractors and staff behind the scenes with 150 Beef Australia volunteers. It seemed like every politician was in town at some point with Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and 39 state and federal ministers attending the event. ....

The Capella community submitted a petition with its preferred operating hours to Central Highlands Regional Council in April, prompting council to review its options. Manager Planning and Environment Kirstin Byrne said recruiting extra positions was a short-term solution while council’s long-term waste strategy was developed. “After the introduction of the Queensland Waste Levy on 1 July 2019, council was required to put in place waste disposal controls across all our waste facilities,” she said. “To assist us in fulfilling our monitoring and reporting obligations under the state levy, 24/7 access was no longer an option so manned opening hours had to be brought in and CCTV cameras installed. ....

QCN Fibre has been awarded Australian Government funding under the Regional Connectivity Program for solutions in Bluff, Duaringa, and Dingo. The funding allows QCN Fibre, in partnership with Retail Service Provider MarchNet, to deliver a fixed wireless solution with fibre backhaul to provide coverage and minimum 100Mbps broadband, and up to 1Gbps, to businesses and residents of these towns. QCN Fibreâs chief executive officer, Derek Merdith, said the company was committed to bridging the connectivity gap in regional communities. ....
UPDATE 10AM: Power has returned to Central Queensland homes and businesses following a region wide outage on Tuesday morning. Ergon Energy has removed its power outage alert covering parts of the Central Highlands, although the cause of the outage remains uncertain. INITIAL 9.21AM: Nearly 10,000 Ergon Energy customers are without power across Central Queensland communities due to an outage. Ergon Energy’s outage finder shows 9020 customers in the Emerald area lost power just before 8.30am Monday. Areas impacted include Anakie, Bogantungan, Capella, Emerald, Fernlees, Gindie, Rubyvale, Sapphire, Springsure, The Gemfields, Willows Gemfields and Wyuna. The outage is also impacting a further 135 customers in nearby Comet, Duaringa and Yamala. ....
