Marriott International announced the opening of the Austin Marriott Downtown on Friday. The 31-story property is intended to represent a new look for Marriott Hotels, the company said. The design takes inspiration from materials endemic to Austin, including limestone and Texas Cedar, and it was designed to support the needs for social distancing when meeting friends and colleagues. “Spaces and amenities are crafted to allow guests to achieve moments of creative brilliance,” Marriott said in a statement. Guest rooms, which start on the seventh floor, offer views of Lady Bird Lake, the Austin skyline, and the University of Texas campus. ....
A vintage streetcar in Vienna, Austria Multiple European countries are banning cloth face masks in an attempt to stem the spread of new, more transmissible strains of the coronavirus. Bundeskanzler Angela Merkel announced new requirements for face masks worn in public last week, mandating medical-grade masks and forbidding ordinary cloth ones. The rules apply to public transportation, in shops and other similar businesses, and in all workplaces. Germany will send vouchers for 12 FFP-2 masks to all 34.1 million citizens, and Bundesgesundheitsminister Jens Spahn said that there is no indication that the country will face production bottlenecks for such amsks. Starting Monday, Austria, which extended its lockdown into February, will mandate FFP2 masks in shops and on public transportation. ....

The options for this are few, and generally are Pacific Ocean islands where the inhabitants are experiencing the benefits of having a border consisting of vast bodies of water. At press time, the World Health Organization lists 15 countries and territories that have reported zero cases. The list includes American Samoa, Anguilla, Cook Islands, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Kirbati, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Pitcairn Island, Saint Helena, Samoa, Tonga, Turkmenistan, Tuvalu, although two countries in particular, North Korea and Turkmenistan, have drawn skepticism from the international community about the accuracy of their health data. ....
JetBlue Mint business-class cabin on an Airbus A321 JetBlue Airways announced plans to offer new service to Miami; Key West; Los Cabos; and Guatemala City, Mexico. The action marks the first time in the airline’s history that it will operate flights to these destinations. This comes, the airline said, as part of a larger strategy to add 24 new non-stop routes in the first half of 2021 in an effort aimed at “immediately generating to cash revenue” and “capturing” new traffic where it sees customer demand. The New York-based airline will launch non-stop service to both Miami and Key West starting February 11, 2020. Miami will be linked to to New York, Newark, Boston, and Los Angeles with 14 flights per day. Key West will be connected to New York and Boston and flights will operate four days a week. ....
