This year for the first time, Tulane University is partnering with local nonprofit BYOBikes, which is committed to building a better community. The organization accepts donations of bicycles no longer wanted or needed by the owner. BYOBikes makes necessary repairs to the donated bicycles and gives them to children in the New Orleans area. BYOBikes relies on donations to keep the program running. On Monday, May 10 and Tuesday, May 11, BYOBikes will be collecting donated bikes on McAlister Drive in front of McAlister Auditorium between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. This event is sponsored by the Tulane University Police Department. ....

Tulane Police Chief Kirk Bouyelas issued a statement on Saturday morning. “We are deeply saddened by the senseless and tragic death of TUPD Corporal Martinus Mitchum,” the statement reads, according to WVUE. “Corporal Mitchum was a dedicated police professional who had a heart of service for the Tulane community. We have reached out to his family and are providing support to his fellow officers during this difficult time.
