Two volunteer work parties are scheduled for this Thursday and Saturday, July 29 and 31, to begin removing the invasive nightshade in the Edmonds Marsh along Highway 104. According to organizer Joe Scordino, the purpose of this volunteer restoration project is to remove the nightshade that is impacting marsh water flow and fish passage and killing trees in the buffer zone. The work parties are from 10 a.m. to noon each day. Volunteers are asked to complete Washington State Department of Transportation’s (WSDOT) volunteer registration form and send it to [email protected]. ....
MY EDMONDS NEWS Posted: January 21, 2021 900 Compass Courses’ tribute to Kamala Harris went up on Monday, and has drawn a stream of visitors to look and take photos. Passersby at Harbor Square Business Complex have noticed the new display outside of Compass Courses depicting newly-elected U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris at the helm of a ship bearing her name. “I admire her so much,” says Compass Courses owner Julie Keim, who along with staff from her school put up the Kamala Harris tribute earlier this week. “It’s beginning to attract some real attention,” she adds. “Several folks have stopped by with their kids and used it as a photo backdrop. I really love how many young girls are becoming inspired by Harris’ example, see themselves in her, and realize that they can do this too. I welcome everyone to visit, and the more photos the better!” ....
MY EDMONDS NEWS Posted: December 23, 2020 Flooding on Dayton Street Monday. (Photos by Julia Wiese) The pounding rain that flooded the Puget Sound region Monday came during a perfect storm of factors that overwhelmed the capacity of the City of Edmonds’ stormwater system, Public Works and Utilities Director Phil Williams said Wednesday. “This was the most serious and widespread urban flooding we have experienced for many years,” Williams said. “Some of our senior stormwater personnel say it was more intense than they can recall in the last 20+ years. We are still looking at the data to see if we can confirm that statistically.” ....
I don’t know that it would be worth spending that much money on a pump system. Best to cut losses and rebuild is most likely. Certainly if it comes to a 3-4 foot rise, than downtown Tacoma and the Port of Seattle will be in much worse shape and will likely take the majority of State funding to remediate. Nationally, huge parts of the Gulf Coast and coastal cities in Florida will be under water with many tens of trillions of losses in property and destroyed homes. It is unlikely that the situation in Edmonds would be able to secure enough money in that situation to save Harbor Square, the marina, and Brackets landing compared to the much larger losses elsewhere. ....
