Approved management agreement expected to boost harbor's future

Oxnard and Ventura County officials have approved a major agreement on managing Channel Islands Harbor, predicting the deal will clear the way for much-needed improvements.
The pact resolves disputes between the city and county over maintenance of public recreational areas and building permit issues and calls for a cooperative approach on land development.
It is a milestone as far as I am concerned, Mayor John Zaragoza said Wednesday, the day after the Oxnard City Council unanimously approved the 25-year agreement.
The council s decision came on the same day that the Ventura County Board of Supervisors passed the agreement, which takes effect immediately. ....

Channel Islands Harbor Holiday Food & Toy Drive collects record number of items for local families

VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. - Ventura County families in need will receive much-needed food and toys this holiday season.
The Holiday Food & Toy Drive took place on Saturday, December 12 at Fisherman’s Wharf in the Channel Island Harbor.
The Ventura County Harbor Department and the Harbor & Beach Community Alliance teamed up to host the the event.
An estimated 2,200 toys were collected to benefit the Spark of Love Toy Drive and 5,000 lbs of non-perishable food and money donations of nearly $14,000 were given to benefit the Food Share of Ventura County.
The money donations alone will provide over 41,000 meals. ....
