Ministry gazettes the date to delink University of Malawi

Ministry of Education (MoE) has gazetted 4th May 2021, to be the commencement date for Acts of Parliament Nos 18, 19 and 20 of 2019, that  established the three Universities, namely: University of Malawi ( UNIMA), Malawi University of Business and Applied Science( MUBAS) and Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHes), respectively through Government Notice Nos 27, 28 and 29 of 2021 Published in the Malawi Gazette Supplement, dated 26th April, 2021.
According to the press release the Ministry has released, dated 26th April, 2021, this follows the position of the Malawi Government to proceed with delinking of the University of Malawi colleges into stand-alone universities, communicated at a meeting held in Lilongwe on 18th February 2021, chaired by the Vice President, the Right Honourable Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima and attended by the University of Malawi council, officials from the Ministry of Education, the Department of Statutory Corporations and the p ....

As with all Valentine Days, this year’s day was not uneventful. Covid-19 notwithstanding, a lot happened.
For fear of opening a Pandora’s Box, I will leave this at that and redirect our discourse elsewhere.
On Valentine Day, President Lazarus Chakwera gifted us a bouquet of roses in the form of his first serious statement of intent vis-à-vis reforming our ineffective, self-serving, and generally corrupt public dis-service, which, if truth be told, is the cause of our endemic misery.
Now, as one Kahlin Gibran noted, roses divide opinions; while optimists appreciate roses’ beauty, in the same roses, pessimists see only thorns. ....
