PARAÑAQUE CITY, Jan. 2 (PIA) The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) ushered in the new year by repatriating 234 Filipinos from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain via a chartered Philippine Airlines flight that arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport from Manama on early Friday morning.
“We at DFA are humbled by this experience. It’s a different feeling altogether. We are grateful that we are given the opportunity to help bring home our kababayans especially at this time when everyone is looking forward to the new year and a new beginning,” said Undersecretary Sarah Lou Y. Arriola who shared the repatriation flight from Manama. ....

234 Filipinos repatriated from UAE, Bahrain on New Year's Day | Philippine Canadian Inquirer


A total of 264 repatriated Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from the Kingdom of Bahrain and United Arab Emirates are now back home as they arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on January 1, 2020. Joining the repatriated OFWs in the chartered flight was the 14-man Philippine delegation led by Special Envoy and Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs and Chief of Presidential Protocol (PAFA) Robert E.A. Borje and Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs Sarah Arriola. Due to the onset of the coronavirus pandemic crisis, the Philippine government has taken intensified efforts such as the Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) and repatriation programs to ensure the welfare of the OFWs. Those awaiting repatriation were either affected by lockdowns or whose work contracts have expired amid unavailable commercial flights.
