Amrita Hospitals unveils breakthrough Radio-Synovectomy procedure for hemophilia patients

Amrita Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, in collaboration with the Department of Clinical Hematology, Amrita Hospitals has launched the breakthrough ‘Radio-Synovectomy’ (RS) procedure to treat hemophilia patients suffering from chronic synovitis.
Yttrium-90, a necessary element required for the treatment is being procured from France, especially for this procedure.
The Hospital is the only one to have introduced it for the first ever time in Kerala and this is the second such centre in the whole of India. The only other hospital to be conducting this procedure in the country is CMC Vellore in Tamil Nadu.

New Delhi, April 20 : As a multi-research team from the UK, the US and Canada warned in a Lancet study last week that SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes Covid-19, is predominantly transmitted through the air, Indian experts on Tuesday said that such understanding already exists and while further research is required to support this claim, people need to be wary of both air and surface transmissions.
The researchers in the Lancet study found little to no evidence that the virus spreads easily via large droplets, which fall quickly through the air and contaminate surfaces.

New Delhi, April 14 : As India witnesses an unprecedented surge in Covid caseloads, voices for a short-duration national lockdown or in severely-hit states/UTs grew louder on Wednesday and experts urged the Centre to immediately plan and execute a 15-day lockdown to break the chain of infection and manage the second wave of the pandemic.
