Coast Guard assists in establishing free internet connection in Sulu

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has assisted the Department of Information Communications Technology (DICT) in establishing free internet connection in Jolo, Sulu.
In a statement of Friday, April 9, the PCG said the BRP Bagacay (MRRV-4410) ensured the safe and secure transportation of personnel and essential Information and Communications Technology (ICT) equipment last week.

Institutionalize online learning through legislation, says education think tank

The Philippine Normal University (PNU), in a statement issued Saturday, April 10, said the repeated studies of its education expert has been proving that “online education is inevitably becoming pertinent” in 20th century education.
Researches over the last 10 years compiled by Dr. Edna Luz Raymundo-Abulon of PNU “even indicate that technology” – as part of other education strategies – can spell the difference in Philippines’ reversing the “brain drain” phenomenon.
“Apparently, the brain drain phenomenon – where Filipino teachers choose rather to work abroad than teach here – is caused not only by the low wage at home, but also the lack of opportunities to growth,” PNU said. ....

Eliseo M. Rio Jr., former acting secretary and undersecretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), shared the high points of his decades-long career in the government during the second episode of new podcast IN BETWEEN presented by

In particular, Rio recalled his role during the popular uprising, dubbed “Edsa Dos”, that toppled former president Joseph “Erap” Estrada in 2001. Although he had already retired from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in October 2000, Rio revealed that he was part of the military group that orchestrated “text blasting” to foment dissent in public to force Estrada out of power. At that time, he said the military was split into two factions those loyal to Estrada and those who backed Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. ....

Kenya’s Gladys Mosomtai has been named as one of the winners in The Next Einstein Forum’s (NEF) young science & technology champions.
NEF has announced its young science and technology champions.  The winners were selected one from each African country, and are all below 42 years old.
Each of the champions drive the NEF’s local public engagement activities while growing their careers through the NEF’s partnerships that offer opportunities for mentorship and collaborations with established researchers.
