Randall “Randy” Jay Harris, age 73, of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, passed away May 31, 2021. He was born October 1, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late Roy G. Harris, Jr. and Ella Krecker Harris. He moved to Eureka Springs in the early 1980’s with his wife and worked as a truck driver for JB Hunt and Tyson Foods for many years. He loved to share stories about all of his travels around the United States. In later years, he worked at Walmart as a greeter until he retired. Randy was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Holiday Island and also a Mason. He was Past Master of the Basin Springs Masonic Lodge #386 and Past Master of Yell Lodge #64. He loved cooking and preparing food for others to enjoy. He always had a clever, but sarcastic, comment to make in conversations that usually made people laugh. He liked to give back to children’s charities and spoiled his dog Cricket whom he loved beyond words. In addition to his parents, he is precede ....

The art of the peaceful protest has been a staple of Byron Shire life since the ‘new settlers’ arrived in the 1970s, searching for that rainbow at the end of conformity. It has taken on elements of theatre and of humour, often expressed through costume, dance, music and that ubiquitous medium, face-painting.
In 1991, as well as protests against indiscriminate government logging mentioned in Archive #2, some 400 people took to the streets of Byron Bay in January to protest against ‘the current crisis in the Persian Gulf’. Various luminaries addressed the rally at Main Beach, backed by a large banner, ’No Bloody War’. ....

NC's complicated relationship with Colonial Pipeline, gas shortages


The line for the gas station just off Interstate 40 snaked around the block, while just south of downtown Wilmington tanker trucks were lined up bumper to bumper waiting to enter the fuel terminals that line the Cape Fear River near the State Port.
The Colonial Pipeline had stopped pumping fuel into North Carolina, and the state was slowly grinding to a halt as gas stations ran dry.
But this wasn’t two weeks ago, when a multi-day shutdown of the pipeline caused by a ransom attack left gas stations across the Southeast particularly in North Carolina with empty tanks.  ....
