Easing into e-bike access: Consideration of more trail use looks to be gradual process

When Silver- thorne resident Jacob Miller visited Mesa County earlier this month to ride the Lunch Loops trail system, he relied entirely on his legs and lungs to power a regular mountain bike.
But when asked if he thought electric-powered bikes, or e-bikes, should be allowed on trails like those at Lunch Loops, he said he saw no reason not to allow them.
âI mean, itâs all about impacts, right, and they donât have any more impact on the trail than a regular bicycle. Theyâre not noisy, I mean not impactful in any way, on the environment, on the ears,â he said. ....

With seasonal closure lifted April 15 (riding is not allowed until June 1), outdoor adventurers can still park their vehicles at the newly developed drive-in parking lot and bike 6 miles of the first phase of what will be an 18-mile project.
The Grand Hogback Trails at Rifle Arch are located 9 miles north of Rifle, on Colorado Highway 13. The parking lot is on the east side of the road.
Work, however, is still underway.

Hi Country 4 Wheelers prepare for annual Hubbard Mesa cleanup

Just one person can make a difference out at Hubbard Mesa, a Bureau of Land Management administrator said.
“We want to continue to remind the public it takes a collaborative effort,” BLM field manager Larry Sandoval said. “If nothing hits home, I hope that does.”
Hubbard Mesa, a 2,480-acre expanse next door to Rifle that boasts several outdoor recreation opportunities, continues to deal with refuse and dumping issues which are said to have persisted since the 1970s.
The land is managed mostly by the BLM and Garfield County. Dumping citations over the past two years have been slim to none, the county said in early March. ....
