Ahead of Eid al-Fitr, Islamic Relief calls for more action to end global hunger
More than one million people around the world have benefited from Ramadan food packages distributed by Islamic Relief Worldwide during the holy month in 2021 – one of the largest Ramadan food distributions in the organisation’s 37-year history, despite the huge challenges of Covid-19.
Packs containing essentials such as sugar, beans, dates and oil have been distributed in more than 30 countries, including Yemen, Sudan, Mali, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Bosnia and Myanmar. Distributions were done outdoors with social distancing, masks and other measures to protect against Covid-19. ....

LFC Foundation helps distribute food packs ahead of Eid-Al-Fitr
LFC Foundation has joined up with Islamic Relief UK and the Liverpool Mosque Regions Network (LRM) to distribute 500 essential food packs to vulnerable people including the homeless, asylum seekers, refugees and women who have suffered domestic abuse.
The Reds official charity worked closely with Islamic Relief UK to pack boxes of essentials at Anfield, before supporting in their delivery alongside LRM to 10 locations across the city.
The food packs - which each contain 17 items, including halal chicken, rice, pasta, eggs, beans, butter and bread - were distributed alongside sanitary products such as shampoo, toothpaste, hand wash, shower gel and more. ....

Islamic Relief condemns escalation of violence in Jerusalem

Islamic Relief is appalled at the latest escalation of violence and attacks on Palestinians in East Jerusalem, which is spiralling into the worst violence there for several years.
This morning Israeli forces stormed the Haram al-Sharif compound, injuring many worshippers praying at the Al Aqsa Mosque. Hundreds of Palestinians have been wounded in the past few days.
Tufail Hussain, Interim CEO of Islamic Relief Worldwide, says:
“We are horrified at reports that soldiers have fired rubber bullets and tear gas at worshippers praying at Al Aqsa, the third holiest site in Islam, during the holy month of Ramadan. The right of people to worship freely and in safety must be upheld for all, regardless of faith. ....

A year on since the UN warned of “famines of biblical proportions”, rich donors have funded just 5 percent of the UN’s $7.8bn food security appeal for 2021.
More than 200 NGOs published an open letter today calling upon all governments to urgently increase aid to stop over 34 million people, from being pushed to the brink of starvation this year.
The $5.5bn additional funding recently called for by the UN WFP and FAO is equivalent to less than 26 hours of the $1.9 trillion that countries spend each year on the military. Yet, as more and more people go to bed hungry, conflict is increasing. ....
