Covid-19 travel restrictions: Double dose or negative test must for entry from Assam


The Bengal health department and the administrations of Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts which share borders with Assam imposed restrictions on entry of people from the neighbouring state from Monday because of a surge in Covid-19 cases in northeastern states.
“Anybody entering Bengal from Assam has to be either fully vaccinated or will have to carry an RT-PCR negative report issued not more than 72 hours ahead of his/her travel. At the border check-post, they will have to furnish the certificate of vaccination or a copy of the report to enter Bengal. The decision has been made to control the Covid-19 situation and because of the apprehension of a third wave,” said Girish Chandra Bera, the chief medical officer of health of Alipurduar. ....

West Bengal Assembly elections 2021: Two Trinamul leaders killed in north Bengal


Two Trinamul Congress leaders were killed in north Bengal on Tuesday night as the spate of violence following the counting of votes continued unabated in the region.
Deepak Roy, 32, a vice-president of the Trinamul Youth Congress’s Alipurduar 1 block unit and a resident of Mathura, was killed when he was returning home from a wedding party.
When a car carrying Roy and five of his friends reached near a stone crushing unit around 11.30pm, they found that the road had been blocked with a tractor. Before Deepak and his friends could gauge what was happening, men carrying weapons circled the car and attacked them. ....

KOLKATA: A 54-year-old TMC worker was stabbed to death in West Bengal s Purba Bardhaman district, police said on Tuesday.
Srinivas Ghosh (54), a TMC panchayat member of Ketugram s Agardhanga area, was stabbed alleged by members of the BJP on Monday night when he was returning home, they said. ....
