U.S. Embassy urges Kyrgyz government to investigate violent intimidation of protesters, Women s Day march attack and bring those responsible to justice
AKIPRESS.COM - The U.S. Embassy in Bishkek expressed concerns about yesterday’s events at the Ministry of the Interior headquarters where protesters demanding resignation of the Interior Minister and stop of violence against women were dispersed.
The threat of mob violence and intimidation tactics against demonstrators exercising their constitutionally guaranteed right to peaceful assembly is unacceptable. The United States calls on the Kyrgyz government and law enforcement to protect the free exercise of freedom of speech and peaceful assembly from any party that seeks to restrict these rights. We also note that those responsible for yesterday’s violent intimidation, as well as those who attacked a Women’s Day demonstration last year, have not been he ....

Ramadan starts on Tuesday, Taraweeh prayers to be held at home


Waiswa on Sunday evening said that since the crescent moon was not sighted on Sunday evening, Ramadan will automatically start on Tuesday.
He has meanwhile said that due to covid-19 pandemic, there will be no Taraweeh prayers at the  national mosque unless the  President comes out to relax the curfew hours.
He has now called upon the Muslim community  to have the prayers from home as they await a decision from government.
The fasting period will be unlike the others due to the pandemic with the faithful asked to carry their own water for ablution ( water for washing hands, feet, arms and legs)  since toilets are prohibited during this period for fear of spreading the pandemic. ....
