Biden Taps Walsh for U.S. Labor Secretary in Washington, D.C.
President-elect Joe Biden has called on Mayor Martin Walsh to join his Cabinet and lead his incoming Labor Department – and Walsh has answered the call for his long-time ally and friend.
Rumors had been swirling all last week, particularly in the State House, about Walsh’s impending departure – which most thought would be announced last Wednesday. National events at the U.S. Capitol seemed to postpone that, and on Tuesday it was first officially reported by Politico.com. Lynch: Biden will tap Walsh as Secretary of Labor

BOSTON President-elect Joe Biden plans to nominate Boston Mayor Marty Walsh to serve as his Labor secretary, U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch confirmed to WCVB-TV on Thursday.
Walsh, who is a former top union leader, is longtime friends with the incoming president.
Others who were under consideration for the post include U.S. Rep. Andy Levin, D-Michigan, former Deputy Labor Secretary Seth Harris, California Labor Secretary Julie Su and AFL-CIO Chief Economist Bill Spriggs.
AP, CNN, The Washington Post and Politico reported the move, citing sources.
Neither Walsh nor his representatives have commented on the reports.

President-elect Joe Biden on Friday introduced the governor of Rhode Island, the mayor of Boston and a small-business advocate from California as the newest members of his economic team.
The formal announcement came a day after his transition team announced Gov. Gina Raimondo as his choice to become commerce secretary, Mayor Marty Walsh as his candidate for labor secretary and Isabel Guzman as his pick to lead the Small Business Administration.
One of Biden s top challenges after he takes office Jan. 20 will be to nurse an economy reeling from the coronavirus pandemic back to health. He said the newest members of his economic team will help achieve that “by building an economy where every American is in on the deal.”
