Jail inmates plan to escape stopped by Rutherford County deputies

A potential jail escape plan was thwarted over the weekend by Rutherford County Adult Detention Center deputies, Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh said. Deputies discovered information about an escape plan being discussed by inmates and took immediate action, Fitzhugh said in a press release. The individuals who talked of the plan were identified and placed in segregation, Fitzhugh said. The investigation is ongoing and charges may be pending. As always, any talk along these lines is considered credible,” Fitzhugh said. Chief Deputy Keith Lowery said the detention center administration verified the escape was not plausible. Jail Administrator Chris Fly said in a correctional setting, talk of escape is a common occurrence and officials  take every threat seriously.

Rutherford County Deputies earn life saving awards Feb 03, 2021 at 07:30 am by WGNS Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh recognizes four sheriff’s deputies for saving the lives of a 2-month-old infant and another deputy for removing an unconscious driver from inside a burning car. Four Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office deputies who saved the life of a 2-month-old infant allegedly choked by his father earned Life Saving Awards Tuesday from Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh. Another deputy who removed a driver from a burning car also received the Medal of Valor Award from Sheriff Fitzhugh.
