The HSE is “totally ignoring the people of Longford” when it comes to the rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine, according to Longford Municipal District Cathaoirleach, Cllr Peggy Nolan.
Longford County Council executive and elected members have been working “hand in glove” with the HSE in order to identify a suitable site for a vaccination centre in the county but Cllr Nolan has said the the HSE are simply not entertaining any suggestions put forward.
“The bar is set way too high to facilitate Longford. They want a big carpark facility and we don’t have that. But we have the rugby club. We have Slashers. We have two hotels,” said Cllr Nolan. ....

Longford IFA members were delighted that their innovative roadside billboard campaign to promote farm families and to highlight the value of local food production was mentioned in the Dáil last week.
Deputy Joe Flaherty said the posters emphasise the diversity of the sector in County Longford with beef, sheep, chicken, tillage and egg producers all featuring prominently. “A number of the posters feature local farm families and serve to remind us, the consumers, that local farm families, farmers, neighbours and friends, depend very much on the choices we make when we go into our supermarkets.” ....

Residents and landowners are unhappy about a lot of issues in relation to the N4 Mullingar to Longford (Roosky) project which is at public consultation stage in relation the Route Corridor Option.
Senator Micheál Carrigy outlined that he held a virtual public meeting on Tuesday, February 16, with over 100 attendees, where it was made very clear that people are very dissatisfied with the information which has been made available on this public consultation.
He added that there were also concerns that this information is now only available on line which does not suit everyone especially our more elderly citizens who may not have access to these files. ....

There is much anger, frustration among Longford s elderly over shortcomings in the Covid-19 roll-out.
Speaking in the Dáil today, Longford /Westmeath Fianna Fáil Deputy Joe Flaherty spoke about how an 86-year-old woman due to be vaccinated on Friday was told it would be another two weeks before the GP gets the supply of vaccine .
While he was also contacted by a 76-year-old woman from Aughnacliffe who said the one thing that sustained her for the past two months has been the anticipation of getting the vaccine and a possible opportunity to visit her new born granddaughter in London. She was angry. Through her tears, she told me that, for the first time in her life, she knows what it is like to be depressed. ....
