Young adults living with incurable illnesses will have access to waterfront respite care when Australia’s first hospice for young people opens on Sydney’s northern beaches next year.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian on Monday turned the first sod at the site of the adolescent and young adult hospice, which will provide palliative care for 15 to 24-year-olds and their families when construction completes late 2022.

Manly will soon house Australia’s first palliative care hospice for young people living with an incurable illness, with construction to commence shortly.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Member for Manly James Griffin visited the site of the former Manly Hospital today to turn the first sod on the Adolescent and Young Adult Hospice.
“This is the first hospice in Australia dedicated to 15-24 year old patients living with an incurable illness, providing first class palliative care services and support during the most challenging of times,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“The hospice will welcome families from right across NSW, including in rural and regional areas.” ....

NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro says the federal government should reject plans to extend a permit allowing gas drilling in offshore waters from Manly to Newcastle.
The permit relates to a joint venture between Advent Energy and Bounty Oil and Gas. An application to extend the Petroleum Exploration Permit (PEP-11) by two years rests with the federal government.

Northern beaches business owners will be able to apply for relief packages of $3000 and $5000 after missing out on the lucrative Christmas trading period due to the Avalon COVID-19 outbreak.
The grants will be offered to small businesses that experienced severe financial hardship as a result of restrictions forced upon them by the cluster, which would eventually grow to 151 cases.
Businesses that experienced a 30 per cent decline in turnover will be eligible for a $3000 grant, while those that endured a decline of at least 50 per cent can apply for $5000. ....
