CRANSTON A car rally Sunday afternoon renewed the cry for decarceration and called for corrections officers to be held accountable for not following protocols.
The weekly rally was held this time in memory of the inmate who died Feb. 9 in medium security, identified by organizers as Jose Franco.
ACI officials have not confirmed that the inmate was Franco, but court records show that Jose Franco, 46, who was returned to the ACI in July as a violator of the terms of his release, was deceased. He had been arrested Feb. 19, 2020, by Cranston police for failing, as a sexual offender, to notify police of his change of address. The judge suspended t ....

CRANSTON A car rally Sunday afternoon renewed the cry for decarceration and called for corrections officers to be held accountable for not following protocols.
The weekly rally was held this time in memory of the inmate who died Feb. 9 in medium security, identified by organizers as Jose Franco.
ACI officials have not confirmed that the inmate was Franco, but court records show that Jose Franco, 46, who was returned to the ACI in July as a violator of the terms of his release, was deceased. He had been arrested Feb. 19, 2020, by Cranston police for failing, as a sexual offender, to notify police of his change of address. The judge suspended two years and gave him three years probation. A subsequent arrest for obstructing police violated the terms of his release, and he was sent back to serve the full term. ....

CRANSTON, R.I. Rhode Island police are investigating the death of an inmate being held at a medium-security prison.
State Department of Corrections spokesperson J.R. Ventura said that corrections officers found the unidentified man unresponsive in a single unit cell Tuesday at John J. Moran Medium Security facility.
Ventura said at this time foul play is not suspected. He said he could not provide more information until the next of kin is notified.
This is the second inmate death in weeks at this prison, the Providence Journal reported. Forty-nine-year-old Timothy McQuesten died at the state prison’s Intake Service Center on Jan. 18. The death is under investigation. ....

RI state police investigate second inmate death at ACI in a matter of weeks

CRANSTON The state police are investigating the death Tuesday of a man being held in the medium security unit of the Adult Correctional Institutions.
According to state Department of Corrections spokesman J.R. Ventura, corrections officers found the unnamed man unresponsive in his single cell at the John J. Moran Medium Security facility.
The Department of Corrections Investigative Unit and the Rhode Island State Police are investigating the incident. At this time, no foul play is suspected, Ventura said.
Ventura said he could not provide more information until the next of kin is notified.
The death marks the second at the prison in a matter of weeks. A corrections officer was placed on paid administrative leave after the death of 49-year-old Timothy McQuesten at the state prison s Intake Service Center, which also remains under investigation. ....
