West Lafayette School Corporation Approves Plan Requiring Masks Among K-6 Students

The West Lafayette Community School Corporation board unanimously approved a school reopening plan Monday night requiring K-6 students to wear masks while in school.
Both unvaccinated students and staff in K-6 schools will be required to wear masks, and vaccinated staff will be encouraged to continue masking.
In grades 7-12 masks will be encouraged but not required for either staff or students regardless of their vaccination status.
The CDC currently recommends continued masking in schools for those who aren’t fully vaccinated. The majority of K-6 students are not yet eligible for a vaccine. ....

TIPPECANOE, FOUNTAIN AND WARREN COUNTIES, Ind. (WLFI) - Public health leaders are sharing their disappointment at the override veto vote on Senate Bill 5.
As we previously reported, Governor Eric Holcomb vetoed the bill. However, the state legislature reconvened on Monday and voted to override that veto.
The bill makes it so that health departments must get approval from county commissioners to make any kind of public health mandate. It makes it so that local health orders can t supersede a state health order, and it makes it so county health officers must be appointed by county commissioners. ....

Following State, Tippecanoe County Suspends Use of Johnson & Johnson Vaccine

The decision comes as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention launched an investigation after six of the 6.8-million people who took the vaccine developed rare blood clots.
The six cases developed in women between the ages of 18 and 48, with symptoms occurring between six and 13 days after vaccination. According to the CDC and FDA, treatment of this particular type of blood clot is different from a more typical clot.
In a written statement, Tippecanoe County Health Officer Dr. Jeremy Adler noted that the number of people to develop the blood clot is less than one in a million, and it isn’t yet clear if the clotting problem is caused by the vaccine. ....
