Stakeholders Tackle FAAN over Security Tax

Officials of international airlines that operate in Nigeria have alleged that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) had diverted the multibillion-naira security tax it collected from passengers for the provision of facilities at the airports.
But FAAN has denied the allegation, saying it was false.
Every passenger traveling to international destination pays $20 security tax to FAAN. It was introduced in 2010 to provide infrastructure that would further fortify the airports against terror attacks.
FAAN recorded 323,751 international passengers at the Lagos and Abuja airports in the first quarter of 2021, that paid $6, 475, 020 (N2, 661, 233, 2020) security fee of $20 each.
One of the officials who spoke to THISDAY, on condition of anonymity, explained that every passenger travelling out of the country pays $20 security tax and FAAN has been collecting the money since 2010, but so far security infrastructure and other facilities at the Murt ....

Enova, the leading energy and facilities management specialist in the Middle East, is marking its 10th-anniversary partnership with Sharjah Airport Authority.

The company was awarded the contract to deliver operations and maintenance services for Sharjah Airport s buildings and infrastructure in 2011.

As one of the most progressive airports in the UAE, Sharjah Airport Authority inaugurated the East Expansion project extending over an area of 4,000 sq m, as part of the main expansion terminal, which aims to increase the airport’s capacity to 20 million passengers per year by 2025.

Desert locust swarms have destroyed crops in major agricultural areas in southern Angola, raising fears of severe food insecurity as the country is also experiencing drought.
At the weekend, the swarms invaded fields in Namibe Province, in southwestern Angola. They have also destroyed crops in Benguela, Cunene and Cuando Cubango provinces.
Mr Carla Tavares, Namibe province deputy, called for assistance in finding a solution to the locust invasion.
The wave of locusts plaguing the south of the country has destroyed 547 farms, said Félix Domingos, the Communication and Press Office director of the Civil Protection and Firefighting Services. ....
