Recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi honour and a Fulbright Scholar at Boston University College of Communication, he was the Director of Centre for Education & Voluntary Action (CEVA) in Chandigarh. Also a filmmaker with more than 20 documentary films to his credit, the artist, a National School of Drama (NSD) graduate who went on to teach at the Film & Television Institute of India (FTII), Chani, who would always be seen in his trademark colourful pagdis was one of the few theatre artists in the region who never let go of his roots street theatre. ....

Image Source: IANS News Chandigarh, May 20 : Globally acclaimed actor-director, comedian and community theatre artiste Gurcharan Singh Channi on Thursday succumbed to coronavirus here. He was 70 years old. The man, who had to his credit of introducing street theatre in Chandigarh, was on ventilator for some time. He was undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Mohali, near here. His wife, Harleen Kohli, has been undergoing treatment for the virus. A recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi s national award for community theatre, Channi is an alumnus of Panjab University s Department of Indian theatre and has twice served as the chairman of Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi (1999-2007 and 2013-15). ....

New Delhi, Jan 20 : He says that ever since the farmers agitation reached Delhis doorstep, a peculiar restlessness refused to let go of him. But as soon as visuals of families camping in tractor-trolleys overpowered television screens and newspaper pages, he knew it was time to pick the camera and take the first road out to the Singhu border. For conceptual photographer Diwan Manna, a National Academy Award winner whose works are in the permanent collection of Museum of Asian Art (Berlin, Germany) and Museum of Modern Art (Saint Etienne, France) apart from other institutions, the fact that the working class was feeling let down and forced to stay in inhospitable conditions pushed him to start photographing them.
