Tue, 05/25/2021 YODER Twenty-three new law enforcement officers graduated from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC) on May 21 at a ceremony held in KLETC’s Integrity Auditorium. Nicholas Delaney, a deputy at the Pawnee County Sheriff’s Office, was the class president for the 278th Basic Training Class. The speaker for the ceremony was chief of police for the Pratt Police Department, Nathan Humble. James Buettgenbach, KLETC senior instructor of police, was the class coordinator for the 278th Basic Training Class. Deputy Jacoby Williams of the Saline County Sheriff’s Office was recognized during the ceremony for his firearms proficiency as the class’ “Top Shot.” Deputy Jimmy Golden of the Gray County Sheriff’s Office and Deputy Daniel Everhart of the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office walked, ran or biked more than 200 miles during their time at KLETC and exceeded the other physical requirements of the 200 Mile Club, including push-up ....
The Heartland Community Foundation s fifth annual Twice As Nice campaign in February raised $410,145 for Ellis, Rooks and Trego counties, surpassing its goal, that organization has announced. Sarah Meitner, HCF s executive director, expressed gratitude to its supporters in those counties in a news release April 5. “We were unsure how the economic climate might impact giving, but the communities exceeded our expectations,” she said. HCF, an affiliate of the Greater Salina Community Foundation, since 2007 has been connecting donors with philanthropic causes in Ellis, Rooks and Trego counties. The money raised will be invested into HCF’s county grant endowment funds, which make funds available to award as grants to local nonprofits, charitable programs and projects. The money raised in each county stays in that county. ....
Stacy Campbell, K-State Extension K-State Research & Extension will be offering a Hazardous Occupation Safety Training for Agriculture or Tractor and Farm Safety Course for youth on Saturday, April 24, 2021 in two locations, WaKeeney and Norton. At both locations it will be held at the 4-H Building on the fairgrounds, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Local K-State Research & Extension Agents will teach this basic course covering farm and machinery safety, including proper tractor operation and maintenance, grain safety, implement use safety, livestock safety and more. The United States Department of Labor requires youth 14 – 15 years of age attend this safety training in order to work on a farm for someone other than their parents. ....
KDOL: Kansas Labor Market Report for January 2021 KDOL press release Preliminary estimates reported by the Labor Market Information Services (LMIS) division of the Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL) and the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) show a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 3.5 percent in January. This was a decrease from 4.7 percent in December and an increase from 3.1 percent in January 2020. “Kansas employers showed continued economic recovery in January, with 10,000 nonfarm jobs added over-the-month,” said Acting Secretary Amber Shultz. “While there has been significant improvement since April, current job estimates remain 4.6 percent lower than January 2020. The rate for Ellis County was 3.7%. Rooks County was 5%; Russell County, 3.7%; Rush County, 3.7%; and Trego County 3.6%. ....
