It is incredible to think that Georges Bizet was just 24 years old when he composed his opera, ‘Les Pecheurs de Perles’, a work showing uncanny maturity which foreshadows his much-loved classic, ‘Carmen’, which he would write 10 years later.
Audiences at The Royal Opera House, Muscat were fortunate enough to watch the 2012 production by ‘Opera Royal de Wallonie – Liege’ from Belgium on two evenings at the weekend.
Although the Belgian company usually performs Italian operas from the standard repertoire, this was a work by a French composer, sung in French with English and Arabic subtitles, by a totally French speaking cast – a refreshing experience for Francophiles in Oman! ....

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib Wednesday said Prime Minister Imran Khan has turned his dream home project into a reality through his hard work day and night.
In a tweet, he said that in the first phase, 10,000 affordable houses at 41 places in 39 tehsils of Punjab will be completed in a period of one year.
He said Prime Minister Imran Khan will lay the foundation stone for simultaneous construction in 10 tehsils including Raiwind in Lahore today (Thursday). ....

A law expert says the local government code of conduct complaints process is a well-intentioned idea that has grown into a monster.
In the Wellington Region alone complaints have ranged from whether it was accurate to refer to councillors eating a lavish buffet of roast chicken, to claims of being attacked on Facebook.
Yesterday the Herald revealed Wellington City Council was made to release a complaint against councillor Simon Woolf, alleging he caused staff considerable distress and failed to consider his duty of care to them. ....
