The demand for dogs is higher than ever before as lockdown restrictions remain in place and more people continue to work from home.
But such high demand has seen prices soar with the cost of puppies more than doubling over the last year. 
Dog theft has also become a real concern for owners across the country, with missing pets website Dogs Lost reporting a 170% increase in the number of dogs being stolen across the UK since the start of the pandemic. 
In January, almost 80 dogs were recovered in police raids in Carmarthenshire and Briton Ferry, with a high number of those animals reported as stolen. ....

The widow of a 62-year-old man who took his  own life hopes lessons will be learned so others do not have to go through what she has experienced.
Timothy Wood, from Terrington, died after being found on Hunstanton beach on March 10, 2020. 
A report into his case by the Norfolk and Suffolk Foundation Trust (NSFT) found there was a “clinical disconnection” between it and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), in King s Lynn.
Mrs Wood said after the inquest: “I know he had mental health issues in the lead up to his death, but I genuinely believe that if he had received proper support he would still be here. ....

Brave Westhoughton woman confronts thief sat in HER car

A WOMAN saved her car from being stolen after spotting the thief sat in the vehicle outside her home.
Quick-thinking Jessica Wood rushed outside to find the burglar ducked down in the driver s seat with the engine running.
But after she demanded he hand over the keys Justin Adamson got out of the vehicle and walked off.
The prolific criminal was sentenced to 876 days in prison when he appeared at Bolton Crown Court and admitted burglary.
Rachel Widdicombe, prosecuting, told how Mrs Wood was in the kitchen of her home in Greenfold Lane, Westhoughton, just after 2pm on December 13 last year when she head a faint knock at the door. ....

Southill Primary teacher completes final session of chemotherapy


AN inspirational teacher who has been battling breast cancer during the pandemic is delighted to have completed her final session of chemotherapy - and said she is looking forward to getting back in the classroom.
Caroline Wood, deputy headteacher at Weymouth s Southill Primary, was told she had breast cancer in May last year at Winterbourne Hospital in Dorchester, during a time when the UK began to learn to live with coronavirus during the first lockdown.
However, on January 2, the 47-year-old had her final chemotherapy session at Dorset County Hospital and is now set to return to work after February s half term. ....
